Quick Update

Athearn/Atlas/Shows/TCS/Kanamodel etc.
Posted by: Dave Cool

Hi Kids,

There is better news with regard to Athearn. I am working with another distributor and can maintain the 15% discount, at least for now. Unfortunately, I can only do 10% for Genesis products, as the company has cut the discount further for this line. I thought that the new Genesis ES44AC would have been more popular, but there seems to be very little interest. It's way past the order deadline now, so if you wish to reserve one let me know a.s.ap. I doubt if I will be stocking them, based on current interest. Any comments?

The new Detail Parts category in the Store now holds 276 items, covering steam and diesel locomotives, freight and passenger cars. Meanwhile, the Manufacturer pages are complete up to Labelle Lubricants, alphabetically. The latter pages are taking some time, but it's a matter of priorities. It takes a good chunk of my time updating the product listings every 30 days - there are 4000 items to check.

It was good to see many of you at the Fall shows - Picton, Montreal, Bowmanville, Whitby, Woodstock and Belleville. Sales were down at all of them, compared to last year, several by a large amount. If this keeps up some of them will be losing dealers (including me). Any comments?

Well - again there is little being shipped by Athearn, Atlas, Bowser, Intermountain, Rapido and TrueLine, as far as new release locomotives and cars is concerned. In new announcements, though, don't forget the deadline for the Atlas GP40-2(W) coming up, plus their NRE Genset II in CP and several CN and CV cars. Also Rapido's F9B - okay, plenty of time there, but don't leave it to the last minute.

The Atlas track products situation is improving, but many items are still no available. If I don't have an item listed in the Store it means that it is not being shipped. However, my distributor may still have it in stock, so email an order to me anyway.

Note that Train Control Systems continues to put out new motor decoders with built-in resistors for LEDs and extending the range of decoders with the Keep Alive feature. There decoders are, arguably, the best and most reliable, even if somewhat more expensive. Any comments?

It looks like the very popular Model Power vehicles will be no more in a little while. I presume that they didn't get their tooling back from the factory. Anyway, they are selling out fast and I can't get any more of most of them. I have 59 models still listed so get them whilst you can.

The Proto 2000 wheel sets are running very low and appear to by unavailable for the next few months. I have been buying more of the TrueLine version to keep you happy in the meantime, so give these a try. I can get more of these.

I have a good supply of Kanamodel kits in stock, large and small ($10 and up), plus many parts. They are Canadian railway structure kits, from beginner to advanced modeller. My discount is still 17.5%.

I will be placing orders for Black Cat Publishing, Builders In Scale and Sylvan Scale Models in the next week or so. Anything that you need from them?

That's all for now,

Have a great Christmas and New Year,
